Monsoon Skincare Tips for Pune's Climate

The Pune monsoon is a welcome relief from the heat, but it brings its own challenges for your skin. The jump in humidity, the dampness, and the constant change between wet and dry conditions can trigger breakouts, fungal infections, and irritation. At our Pimple Saudagar clinic we see a clear rise in these complaints every monsoon season.

Here are practical, dermatologist-backed tips to keep your skin healthy through the rains.

1. Don't Skip Cleansing — But Don't Overdo It

Humidity makes the skin produce more oil, which can clog pores. Wash your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser to remove excess oil and grime. Avoid harsh scrubbing or over-washing, which strips the skin and can actually trigger more oil production.

2. Keep Moisturising — Yes, Even in Humidity

Many people stop moisturising in the monsoon because skin feels sticky. That's a mistake. Switch to a lightweight, non-greasy, gel-based moisturiser instead of skipping it. Well-hydrated skin is more resilient against irritation.

3. Watch Out for Fungal Infections

Damp clothes, wet shoes, and trapped sweat make the monsoon prime time for fungal infections, especially in skin folds and on the feet. Keep skin dry where you can, change out of wet clothes promptly, and don't ignore persistent itching or ring-shaped rashes — these are common and very treatable, but they spread if left alone.

4. Don't Abandon Sunscreen

Cloudy skies don't block UV rays. Continue using sunscreen during the day to protect against pigmentation and damage, choosing a lighter formula if your skin feels oily.

5. Be Careful With Footwear

Closed, wet shoes trap moisture and lead to fungal infections and bad odour. Opt for open or quick-drying footwear during heavy rain, and dry your feet thoroughly when you get home.

6. Stay Hydrated and Eat Well

People often drink less water in cooler monsoon weather, but hydration still matters for your skin. Drink enough water and include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.

When to See a Dermatologist

If you develop a persistent rash, spreading itch, worsening acne, or any infection that doesn't settle within a few days, it's worth getting it checked. Monsoon skin problems are easy to treat early and far more stubborn if ignored.
